Biography:
Oscar Guzmán was born in Mexico City in 1951.
Studies Medicine and Biology in Mexico City (1971-1974 UNAM),
Experimental Psychology at York University, Toronto (1981-1985) and Photography at the Ontario College of Art. (1977- 1979).
He has been involved in research in the area of Visual Perception (1979-1985, York University) and in this field he has published papers and patented two devices to evaluate visual performance (1980, Ontario Science Center. 1983, York University). He taught Contemporary Photography at the Ontario College of Art.
Since 1980 is the director of Imtek Motion (Canada, New York).
Since 1979 he has been working with 3D software to create documents that have no counterpart in this reality. His work "City of Galvez" is an example of these explorations.
Since 1998 he has experimented with alternative ways to represent the space that surround us.
Guzmán now lives in Merida, in the Yucatán Peninsula. He has been involved in documenting archeological Mayan sites using 360 degree photography. Presently, he is involved in developing a system (CUBO) to create virtual environments. In this system, by means of several digital projectors and screens, the spectator is perceptually "inside" a 360 degrees photographic space.
He has shown his work in Canada and Mexico.
Statement:
Visual Cartography
The present exhibition integrates new forms of representation of the space that surrounds us. In these images, the Renaissance lineal perspective is overcome and new paradigms emerge.
The result is an example of how digital technology allows us to explore new visual codes of visual representation. |
