What we do

Through the Pedro Meyer Foundation, my goal is to make a social contribution in support of photography in its broadest expressions, reflecting the technological changes we are currently experiencing and seeking to contribute through the Foundation’s work to the development of society.

Pedro Meyer. Coyoacán, 2010.

MISSION

The primary mission of the Pedro Meyer Foundation (Fundación Pedro Meyer -FPM) is to contribute to reflection, interpretation, and research regarding the photographic image within the framework of the new technologies. Through specific initiatives in the areas of conservation, production, education, and dissemination of the photographic arts -encompassing related arts, including film, video, and multimedia disciplines, whose central focus is photography- we promote the professional and cultural enrichment of the community of these arts and that of society in general.

OBJECTIVES

To constitute a national and international reference in the field of the photographic arts, by actively participating in the development and exploration of photographic language in all its forms.

To promote the preservation and appreciation of the photographic image in its broadest dimensions.

To contribute to professional updating in accordance with evolving technologies and to the training of creators, theoreticians, and promoters of the photographic arts.

To stimulate contemporary photographic production within the framework of state-of-the-art technologies.

To recognize the labor of the photographic arts community and its actors, including photographers, printers, curators, historians, and editors.

HOW WE DO IT

The Foundation seeks to act in an independent, complementary fashion to official cultural institutions, through initiatives in the following areas: Conservation, Education, Production, Dissemination and Community.

Production

The production area is conceived as a laboratory dedicated in particular to experimental and interdisciplinary photographic production, stimulating the creation of new knowledge and emerging artistic practices, through workshops, residencies, and summits.

This activity also proposes the generation of production projects carried out in collaboration and co-production with individuals, public and private institutions, and organizations akin to the Foundation.

Communication

This area of activity focuses on two central tasks:

The communication of works and projects, primarily through exhibitions and publications.

The implementation of merit programs through prizes and recognitions awarded to diverse actors for achievements in the development and growth of the photographic arts in theoretical, dissemination, and production areas. It is important to note that these programs seek to acknowledge those members of the community who rarely receive the recognition they deserve on the part of private and official institutions.

Education

The central objective of the academic programs is to provide useful information and knowledge in every possible respect.

Our goal is to implement academic programs primarily oriented to providing students with theoretical and creative competencies, skills, and tools, and those that expand their economic perspectives. This will be achieved through both theoretical and practical workshops and courses planned in the context of the constant upgrading demanded by continual changes in vanguard technologies, while at the same time stimulating reflection on the impact of the same on the production of photographic arts.

Conservation (Archive)

This activity is dedicated to cataloguing conserving, and disseminating the Pedro Meyer Archive (APM) and other photographic archives that support research, storage, and production projects.

We are currently in the process of concluding the cataloguing of the artistic production of Pedro Meyer. Significant progress has been made in the preparation of a program for the conservation of this archive, although specific aspects remain to be defined such as temperature and humidity control.
